What Do You Look For In A Church?

Across the spectrum of Christian churches, we see so many different things that are said to be necessary in a church. Everyone tries to model their church after another, and claims that theirs is the only way to do church.

The problem I see is this: The only set guidelines come from the Bible. Different tactics and strategies will need to be done in different areas. You can't clone the church across the globe and expect it to work. The truth of the Bible must never be compromised, but outreach and programs and ways of teaching will have to change.

I have opened the blog up so anyone can comment without having to log in.

What do you look for in a church?

I like a church that's spirit filled. One that lets the Holy Spirit do the walking and the talking, with the worship of God being the heart of the church. Many people wait for that connection with Jesus, and the Worship in song and spirit are the keys to having the Holy Spirit fall in the mist of His people. When God comes, in all of His loving power, He will draw the people to Himself through the church. The love and acceptance that most people want can be found in a good Christian, bible believing church, but God seeks also are surrender in our everyday lives and he moves on behalf of His people when we truely adore Him in worship.

I look for a church that keeps the important things important - a Christ centered life. I like a church where there is a vision in building the church (physically), in building the church (spritually) and in maintaining the church (taking care of each other). I like a church where the preacher can say, "I understand that is how you used to do it in your church, but here we like to do it the way the Bible tells us to" without offending folks.

I agree and I'm very glad to read this. A church that teaches the Bible and does not stray from it is the very most important thing. Other than that, a church is made up of people and people will never be perfect.
